Avon - A History

Now that I've introduced myself to you, I would like for you to get to know Avon a little bit better. Here are some fun facts for you.

  • Avon was originally called the California Perfume Company. It was founded in 1886 (That makes it 122 years old!) by David McConnell in New York. (Avon is still headquartered there today.) The company name was changed in 1939 in honour of the river than runs through William Shakespeare's home town. He is McConnell's favourite playwright.
  • Mrs Albee pioneered the company's direct-selling method. She would attend social events in different areas and if she heard a woman's name mentioned on several occasions, she would seek her out and recruit her as a representative.
  • Avon products are sold in over 100 countries.
  • Avon was the first major cosmetics manufacturer to stop animal testing of its products.
  • Avon was the first beauty company to bring the alpha hydroxy technology to the mass market.
  • Avon sponsors several awareness campaigns, like breast cancer and domestic violence.
  • There are more Avon brochures printed every year than $100 bills from the US Mint.
  • Avon offers a money back guarantee on all of their products.
  • Miss a brochure deadline? No problem! Items can still be ordered up to four weeks later at that brochure price.
I hope you have learned a little bit more about this fabulous cosmetics company. There is a reason why it has been around for as long as it has and will continue to be a leader in the industry.
